There is nothing under the sun so wonderful as a good smelling perfume. It just makes us feel romantic and desirable. We cannot leave our homes without applying some on our bodies and men have managed to catch up to woman in this area quite rapidly as well.

It derives from the Latin words "per fumum" which means "through smoke". The art of making fragrances started in the ancient world of Mesopotamia and Egypt and subsequently was refined even more by the Persians and Romans.

Of course everyone knows that France is the main hub where fragrances are created today. They have a nose for scents and can cultivate flowers for their essence almost exclusively for a certain fragrance at the demand of high paying customers.

The perfumeries describe the scents by their fragrance notes and by the family it belongs to. When all the necessary components are combined we will get the all important first impression of the scent when put on.

Also described in a musical metaphor, it has three "notes", which blend harmoniously to give us a scent accord. As you apply a perfume, you first smell the top notes consisting of small lightweight molecules which evaporate quickly.

We then get the middle notes which just emerges after you have applied the initial burst of smell onto your arm or scent swab. It is usually the scent you smell a while after administering it. It is also referred to as the heart of the scent.

Finally you have the base notes gradually appearing and usually only about 30 minutes after application. These notes will bring depth to a scent which you will give you a scent throughout the remainder of the day.
